(Stillwater, Okla.) — A 61-year-old homeless ex-convict with a history of assaults has been given a 10-year prison term for cutting a deaf man in the face at a Stillwater motel in March, about six months after getting out of prison.
George Ivo Hall pleaded guilty Friday to assault and battery with a dangerous weapon before District Judge Phillip Corley, who also ordered him to pay $383 restitution.
Hall was arrested at a motel on E. 6th Avenue at 11:32 pm on March 20, 36 minutes after Stillwater Police Officer James Droescher was dispatched on a welfare check.
The caller said that a couple asked for help and then left, an affidavit said. The caller said “they appeared to be deaf and that the male had blood on his face,” an affidavit said.
After searching the area, the officer spotted a man with blood on the left side of his face who was walking with a woman, his affidavit said.
“I had previously contacted both the male and female on unrelated cases,” and knew that both individuals were deaf, the officer wrote in his affidavit.
Using a notepad, the woman said they were at a motel where Hall stabbed the man in the face, the affidavit said.
The man had a cut on the left side of his cheek and several abrasions on the inside of his right wrist consistent with being caused by a knife, the affidavit said.
The man “was only able to relay to me that he had been cut with a knife and afterwards they had fled the area,” the officer wrote in his affidavit.
“After LifeNet arrived on scene, they advised that they would be transporting (the man) to the SMC ER for treatment,” where a nurse could translate, the affidavit said.
“Speaking through a translator, (the woman) informed me that she and (the man) had been at the motel where George (Hall) has been forcing (the man) to drink,” the officer wrote in his affidavit. She said Hall had been slapping and pushing the man and that she told Hall to stop, the affidavit said.
She said “they were standing outside when George (Hall) approached (the man) from behind and began yelling at him,” the affidavit said.
The man was unable to hear and did not react, at which time Hall swung at the man striking him in the face with a large kitchen-type knife, the affidavit said.
Stillwater Police Officer Jimmy Knox located Hall at the motel where the night manager said he had been staying, the affidavit said.
According to the Oklahoma Department of Corrections, Hall had been released from prison in September of 2020 after serving less than two years of two concurrent six-year prison terms on two counts of a prisoner placing a body fluid on an officer in 2018 in Payne County.
DOC records show that Hall had also previously been convicted in Payne County of:
* prisoner placing body fluid on an officer in 2011 for which he was given a five-year prison term in 2012, but served only about two years;
* assault and battery on a police officer in 2010 for which he was given a concurrent five-year prison term in 2012, but served about two years;
* entering with intent to steal copper in 2006 for which he was given a seven-year prison term in 2006, but served about three years;
* two counts of prisoner placing body fluid on an officer in 2005 for which he was given two concurrent seven-year prison terms, but served about three years;
* assault and battery with a dangerous weapon in 1999 for which he was given a 10-year prison term, but served about four years;
* domestic assault and battery in 1999 for which he was given a concurrent one-year prison term, but served about half;
* drug possession in 1995 for which he was given a 10-year prison term, but served about three and one-half years;
* concealing stolen property in 1989 for which he was given a seven-year prison term in 1990, but served about half.
