(Stillwater, Okla.) — A 75-year-old ex-convict from Ripley has been jailed on $100,000 bail pending a March 4 court appearance on a charge of trafficking methamphetamine along with possessing digital scales with drug residue.
Due to his criminal record, Jackie Lee Boyles Sr. could be imprisoned for four years to life and fined $25,000 to $200,000 if convicted of having 84.5 grams of methamphetamine, court records show.
According to an affidavit by Payne County Sheriff’s Deputy William Bowen, who is assigned to the town of Ripley, Boyles was arrested at 2:51 pm on Jan. 25 after his home in the 200 block of E. Main in Ripley was searched on a warrant.
While Boyles was in the Payne County Jail at 4:13 pm that day, he placed a phone call to a woman, the affidavit alleged.
“At the start of this phone call, Jackie identifies himself to her as Jack Boyles. He informs her he is in jail; she tells him the rumors are already out.
“The female asks about his charges and then if anyone was there. The female tells Jackie he hasn’t been doing nothing and that he’s been doing so good.
“She also tells him she knows they’re looking for her. Jackie tells her they charged me with possession of a substance, but when they’re done, I know it will be more because I had stuff in the house.
“The female asks, ‘that’s just possession, isn’t it?’ She asks,’ isn’t it the laws now that it’s just possession?’
“Jackie tells her ‘well, yeah, but I got some last night.’ The female replied ‘mmm f….’
“Jackie tells her, ‘I didn’t get done with it. I didn’t get to the farm with it.’ The female replies ‘mother f…..’ You can’t hear Jackie’s reply.
“The female then says, ‘I didn’t know that. I didn’t know all that. Of course, I don’t know nothing anyways. I’m just an innocent bystander here"”
According to the state Department of Corrections, Boyles has a history of drug possession dating back to 1997 in Oklahoma County for which he received a five-year prison term. Boyles was convicted of drug trafficking in Payne County in 2003 for which he received a 10-year prison term, but he was paroled in 2008 before being sent back to prison in 2013 and released again in 2016.
