(Stillwater, Okla.) — An ex-convict has been given three concurrent 10-year prison terms for attempting to elude a Perkins police officer in three counties, running a roadblock on Highway 177, and trafficking methamphetamine in Payne County.
Carl William Wilson Jr., 29, of Perkins, who had been jailed on $250,000 bail for over a year, was sentenced to prison by District Judge Phillip Corley after pleading guilty on Feb. 23, court records show.
Wilson had been arrested by Perkins Police Officer Dylan Anderson at 9:08 am on Nov. 10, 2022, about 24 minutes after a pursuit for a traffic violation that began in Perkins went from Payne County into Lincoln County before ending in Logan County where the front driver’s side wheel fell off, apparently causing the truck to slow to a stop, an affidavit said.
Wilson “exited the truck and ran into a field on the south side of County Road 75,” with Perkins Officers David Smith and Dylan Anderson chasing him on foot through the field, an affidavit said.
“Wilson eventually ran back onto County Road 75, and I was able to catch up with him on foot and place him under arrest,” Officer Anderson wrote in his affidavit.
“While patting Wilson down, I located a leather holster on his belt that appeared to be for a firearm, a wallet and a phone. Lincoln County Deputy CJ Hyde told me that Wilson told him he had thrown a firearm out of the window during the pursuit,” Officer Anderson wrote in his affidavit.
“I located one bag containing 9-millimeter ammunition in the glove compartment. A blue cooler was located in the bed of the suspect vehicle by Officer David Smith. Inside the cooler was a dark-colored bag, which contained a quart-sized clear baggy containing large pink crystals that I field-tested and received a positive test for methamphetamine and fentanyl,” with total weight of about 43 grams, Officer Anderson wrote in his affidavit.
At the time of that arrest, Wilson was free on $10,000 bail on charges of being a felon in possession of a gun, having methamphetamine and driving on a suspended license in Stillwater, to which he also pleaded guilty on Feb. 23, court records show. Wilson was given concurrent sentences of five years in prison for the gun, with one year in jail each for drug possession and driving under suspension, court records show.
According to Payne County court records and the state Department of Corrections, Wilson had been released from prison to probation in October of 2019, after serving about 10 months in a Drug Offender Work Camp for possessing methamphetamine with intent to distribute in 2017, drunk driving in 2017, grand larceny in 2015, drug possession in 2015, and unauthorized use of a vehicle in 2013.
