(Cushing, OKla.) Enbridge, Inc generously donated $10,000 to the Cushing Regional Hospital Foundation to be used to improve the healthcare for the people in Cimarron Valley. It was ironic that just a few weeks prior to their donation, the Cushing Fire Department called inquiring about the possibility of purchasing a computer server that would make communication between the ambulances and the ER a possibility. The Cushing Fire Department purchased the soft ware for installation, but they were unable to use it without the server.
This piece of equipment is basically needed for heart patients. It will allow for a heart rhythm to be sent over cellular network to the ER prior to the paramedics’ arrival. With this communication, the ER staff will have knowledge of the patient and his/her condition prior to the arrival. Treatment that began in the ambulance can continue in the ER with little lapse of time.
Chief Kerr feels that this is the final step needed for the care of heart patients. It is something that the community has continually worked on for over 2 years. It began with the CRH Foundation Paramedic Scholarships, to the citizens voting the extension of the sales tax, to the City officials making decisions with their budgets. This is one more step in the improvement of healthcare in our community.
