(Cushing, Okla) –  Enbridge,  Pipeline and terminal operating company has donated $5000 dollars to the Cushing Youth And Community Center for a project at the Cushing Sports Complex.

General Manager Brian Johnson presented Youth Center Director Mick Evans with a check for $5000 dollars to be used in the construction of dugout covers for the ball diamonds at the sports complex.

The project began when Enbridge employees Jason Palmer and Carl Sherwood approached Evans about donating to a project that would help area youth.

Evans, who maintains a wish list of sorts for the Sports Complex presented the idea of dugout covers for the ball diamonds.  Currently, the dugouts are just fenced in areas for the team’s benches,  but there is no shelter from the sun.

Sherwood,  and operator at Enbridge came up with a design for the covers, and took the idea to Palmer,  who is a safety officer.  The idea eventually ended up before General Manager Brian Johnson,  who was able to approve the corporate donation.

Evans says the covers will be built in time for the start of the spring and summer leagues which will use the Sports Complex.  Evans says over the course of the season,  about 2000 kids will make use of the sports complex either in league or tournament play.  The Complex is used for everything from T-ball for four year olds to girls softball to baseball at the junior high and high school level.  Oklahoma State University has used,  and is expected to continue to use the diamonds for prospect camps.

“This actually will touch a lot of people.  We are extremely grateful Enbridge is stepping up to help.”

Other projects in the “pipeline” include the same type of covers for the bleacher areas,  more lighting, and continued improvements to the parking area.

The contribution by Enbridge is one of many the company has made to different organizations.  In January,  Enbridge donated $2500 to the Cimarron Valley Humane Society,  and

The Cushing Regional Hospital Foundation received $10,000 dollars from Enbridge in December to provide the service needed for the communication set up in Cushing ambulances.

The company also donated a vehicle to the Cushing Fire Department to transport firefighters and hazmat students to classes.

Enbridge has contributed more than $107,000 dollars to the Cushing Regional Hospital Foundation.

Enbridge, a transportation and storage company, came to Cushing in 2004 after procuring assets from Shell Oil.
