(Stillwater, Okla.) — The embezzlement case against former Stillwater school district employee Stacy Kay Hampton, 53, who was scheduled to have a pre-trial hearing last week, has been dismissed due to her death on April 8, according to court records.
Hampton, who lived in Stillwater, was charged two years ago with embezzling $216,196.67 in missing funds during a seven-year period while she was an administrative assistant with the school nutrition services program.
District Attorney Laura Austin Thomas had asked the Oklahoma State Auditor and Inspector to perform an independent investigation to determine if an employee misappropriated funds, Stillwater Police Detective Richard Leport wrote in an affidavit.
The audit concluded that Hampton had misappropriated funds totaling $216,196.67 from July of 2012 to May of 2019, the affidavit alleged.
