(Cushing, Okla.) Last night, Tuesday, September 22nd (2015) at 6:30 (pm) in the Dora Hobbs Auditorium at the Cushing, High School, RCB, along with the Bank of Cushing and the Cushing Public Schools came together in sponsoring Fraud Talk with Elaine Dodd.

Dodd, who spent many years in law enforcement doing investigative work, joined the OBA in October 2003 and since has provided fraud training to many, many bankers and consumers across the state.

Dodd spoke to the group, which consisted of approximately 75 or 80 people, about the many different ways that we, as consumers and business owners, can become involved in a fraudulent scheme. All the way from telephone calls (sales or spoof calls), to bogus checks issued that won’t clear the bank, fraud can even involve online purchases that never materialize even after money has changed hands.

However, one of the biggest identity threats for all us can be the use of checks (personal and business) because of bank routing numbers and account numbers that are readily available on them. This makes it easier for a thief to utilize these numbers.

Dodd recommends carrying your wallet and ID in your front pants pocket, and ladies, if you are going shopping at the mall, don’t carry in your big purse! Instead, place your debit card, or credit card, and maybe a check or two along with your Id in your front slack/jean pocket.

Several door prizes were given including: a large, flat screen tv, BOC cash, and several gift or money cards. All of the prizes were donated by RCB, the Bank of Cushing, and the Cushing Public Schools.
