Edward James Dennis, age 85, passed away on Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at the Enid Hospital in Enid. A Dinner for the Family and Friends will be served prior to the service at the American Legion Hall at Noon on Saturday in Yale. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, November 21, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. at the Family Farm in Yale. Arrangements are entrusted to Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Yale.
Edward was born on February 6, 1924 in Gypsy, Oklahoma to the late Harry Claude Dennis Sr. and Isabell (Snyder) Dennis. He attended school in Gypsy. Edward also lived in Garber and Yale. He married Alma Dennis and to this union, two children were born. Edward was a Veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army. Edward worked as a boiler maker in Tulsa for many years. He was a member of the Boiler Makers Union, American Legion and helped with the Food Drive. He also farmed, enjoyed taking care of his cows and chickens. Edward also cooked at several cafe’s in Garber and Enid. Edward always planted a huge garden, and shared with many. Edward married Claudia Irene Anderson Dennis. After retiring from the boiler makers, he worked at the Chandler Cow Sale for a number of years. Edward liked taking care of his flowers, playing pitch and chicken-foot. In his spare time, he loved to embroidery and quilt, making beautiful hand made quilts.
Edward is survived by his wife Irene Dennis of the home, daughter Murna Rae Dennis and companion Danyel Walters of Enid, step-sons: Leon Dennis and wife Barbara of Oilton, Kent Young and wife Jeannette of Tulsa, David Young and wife Darlene of Wewoka, Donald Young of CA., step-daughter Kay Cater of OKC, brother Corky Dennis and wife Hazel of Yale, sisters Claudine (Babe) Morris of Yale, Ida (Sity) Ellis of Kellyville, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Alma Dennis, daughter Sarah Kay Dennis, step-son J. R. Dennis, sister Margarite Jennings, brothers Harry, Floyd, Bill, Fred and twin brothers Lester and Louis Dennis.
