Edith Lucille Bagley, age 89 passed from this life on September 1, 2009 in Shawnee, Oklahoma with her granddaughter Cindy at her side. Edith was born June 2, 1920 in Rolla, Kansas to Willis Burton Hawk and Mina Mae Farrar Hawk.

Edith lived in western Kansas until 1929 at which time her family moved to Neosho Rapids, KS. Her family settled in Peabody, KS 1½ years later and Edith stayed in Peabody until she married. Edith married Edward Girk in 1940 and to this union one daughter, Shirley, was born. During their marriage the family traveled the state of Kansas due to Ed’s work in highway construction. Edith very much enjoyed their time on the road but always called western Kansas and Peabody home. This marriage ended in divorce and in 1958 Edith married Otis B. Bagley and moved to Cushing, OK.
After a brief stay in town, Otis and Edith moved to his farm west of Cushing where they together raised chickens, registered Black Angus, and Santa Gertrudis cattle. Edith delivered fresh eggs on a route every Friday morning to many loyal customers for many years. Her granddaughters, especially Cindy, always enjoyed this time together.
Her years on the farm were active and enjoyable. Edith spent her days tending to their garden produce, orchard fruits and chickens. When she wasn’t working at home she enjoyed embroidering, fishing, sewing, baking and spending time with her four grandchildren.
Otis and Edith cared for several foster children and Edith baby sat with several children who were very dear to her.
Edith was a devout Christian, baptized at the age of 10 in the Methodist Church. She later became a member of the Nazarene Church. Edith worshipped at the Church of the Nazarene in Cushing from 1958 until her health no longer permitted. She taught Sunday school for 35 years at the Cushing Church of the Nazarene. This was Edith’s favorite thing to do in life.
Edith was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Florence Seeney and Ruth Hawk, her husband Otis and one great-great-grandson, Brendan Campbell.
She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Roe and her husband Jim of Cushing; four grandchildren, Dennis Roe and his wife Cindy of Cushing, Sherrie Bean and her husband Jerry Don of Cushing, Cindy Roe of Shawnee, and Kelly Roe and his wife Leslie of Cushing; great-grandchildren, Tara Webb and husband Zack of Yale, Whitley Campbell and her husband Danny of Stillwater, Nicholas Wotipka of Cushing, Jason Wotipka and his wife Danielle of Perkins, Kaleb Roe of Shawnee, Dyllon Roe, Ashley Roe, Kyle Brown Roe, Keeley Roe, Waylon Roe, and Wyatt Roe all of Cushing; step great-grandchildren Sheyanne Ball, Ashley McDonald and her husband Jason and Jerod Bean; four great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
