Early morning structure fire destroys old Cushing landmark.
Just before 5:00 a.m., the 911 call center received a report of structure fire between Depot and Little Streets, on Grandstaff Road. Once the fire department was on scene, they discovered the old Cushing Rail Car office building on fire.
A portion of Grandstaff Road between Depot and Little Streets hasbeen reopened. If possible, residents living in the area are encouraged to choose an alternate route into the city. Chief Brent Kerr estimates that fire crews will be on the scene for at least another hour extinguishing hot spots.
According to fire Chief Brent Kerr, “There was one person living in the building at the time of the fire, and that person was uninjured as a result of the fire. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.”
**Update** As of 10:20 a.m. the fire has been contained and the road reopened. Interim flare ups are possible.
