(Cushing, Okla.) Participants in the 2016 Distinguished Young Women of Payne County Scholarship Program will be enlisting your assistance at Cushing Walmart, Saturday, Jan. 31, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The six participants, Kelsey White (Perkins); Madison Willman, Mariah Sansone (Cushing); Adrienne Blakey, Abbey Batchelder, Rachel Brown (Stillwater) will be at Cushing Walmart to accept monetary donations or new personal item donations for the residents of the Payne County Youth Shelter. Ages of residents range from elementary through high school. Recommended items include: shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrush, socks, towels, wash cloths, deodorant, lotion, feminine hygiene products, comb, brush, as well as unperishable food items, snacks, water, napkins, paper towels, toilet paper, paper plates, paper cups, and cleaning products.
Saturday’s event is a community service activity for this year’s participants.

The Distinguished Young Women Scholarship Program (DYWSP) is the largest and oldest national scholarship program for high school girls. According to www.ajm.org, DYWSP, formerly known as America Junior Miss, has provided “life-changing experiences for more than 730,000 young women across the country and more than $100 million in cash scholarships at the local, state and national levels.” The experience is open to eligible high school juniors at no cost to participate.
DYWS participants will be evaluated in the following categories: Scholastics (20% of overall score), Interview (24% of overall score), Talent (25% of overall score), Fitness (15% of overall score), and Self-Expression (15% of overall score).
