Tracey Cox, Oklahoma Main Street interior design specialist was in town this past Tuesday for an educational session on window displays and interior design. The free session was hosted by Lynda Cummings and the Downtown Cushing Main Street Design committee.
The initial session was held at Faith Church TV in Downtown Cushing and consisted of a slide presentation showing the effects of good and bad design. Cox explained that it starts with very simple things like cleaning windows, removing unsightly clutter etc. Often store owners enter through back doors and don’t see the same things customers and potential customers see.
‘Re-arranging merchandise at different heights, from left side to right side, etc., often can have the desired effect’, Cox state.
One participant, Darline Few, mentioned that she had been previously employed by an antique dealer in Dallas. She related that once after repositioning the merchandise and relocating an antique table to a different part of the store it sold immediately. The excited customer thought it was a new arrival. It turned out that the table had been there for several years but somehow viewing it in a new location made it more desirable.
Following the slide presentation the group toured various downtown businesses to look at window displays, see recent projects and gather ideas for future activities.
