Dorothy Ruth Crisjohn, a longtime Yale area resident, passed away on Friday, July 3, 2009 in Yale at the age of 96.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church in Yale.
Interment will follow at Lawson Cemetery. Rev. John Marks, Rev. John Curtis and Pastor Mike Clark will officiate. Arrangements are entrusted to Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Yale, Oklahoma.
Dorothy was born on October 24, 1912 in Chester, New York. She grew up in Chester, N.Y. and graduated from Chester High School.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Alfred University in 1934. While in college, she was a member of Sigma Nu, making friends that lasted a lifetime. Dorothy married Donald Warren Crisjohn in 1935. They moved to Oklahoma in 1940, moving to Yale in 1956. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church where she was the church organist for over 40 years. She also played for many weddings and funerals over the years. Dorothy taught Sunday school, Adult Women’s Sunday school, served on numerous boards, helped with the Youth at church and was also a member of the Women’s Fellowship throughout the years. She assisted her husband with his law practice in Yale for a number of years.
Dorothy belonged to various study clubs. She was an avid card player-playing hearts with her husband and kids, bridge with her friends, and the last several years beating Ralph at pitch at the Senior Citizen Center. Dorothy was a member of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed taking care of her garden. Dorothy liked to paint and make ceramics.
Dorothy is survived by her daughters Dawn Burch Braswell and husband T.C. of both Yale and Kansas City, Linda Freitas and husband Bill of Lakeland, Fl., sons Jim Crisjohn of Kansas City, Ks., Robert Crisjohn and wife Sharon of Yale, sister-in-law Janet House of Fl., grandchildren Karen Thompson, Linda Sneed and husband Mark, David Burch and wife Jan, Bill Freitas and wife Mary, John Freitas and wife Jen, Jeremy Prince and wife Sabrina, great grandchildren Julie, Charlie, Krista Thompson, Jake and Jessi Burch, Rachel, Caleb and Hannah Sneed, Frank and Johnny Crisjohn Prince.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Donald Warren Crisjohn, brothers Harold House and Harry House, and great grandson Joshua Sneed.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Dorothy’s name to the First United Methodist Church in Yale or the Yale Senior Citizens Center.
