Dorman Cecil Wright, a lifelong Cushing resident, passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2009 at the St. Francis Hospital, Tulsa at the age of 73.
Funeral services have been entrusted to the Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing, OK and will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 9, 2009 at the First Church of God Church in Cushing with Pastor Kevin Clouse officiating. Interment will follow at the Fairlawn Cemetery, Cushing.
The son of the late George Washington and Iva Mae (Poiner) Wright, Dorman was born on July 16, 1935 in Cushing, Oklahoma. He graduated from Cushing High School in 1954.
He was united in marriage to Doreen Smith on November 25, 1958 in Cushing.
Dorman worked as a clerk and stocker for Cushing Wholesale Grocery for a number of years.
He lived in Cushing most of his life. He drove a truck for route delivery for a few years before working at Bill’s EZ Ice, retiring in 2007. Dorman was named “Father of the Year” in 1974.
He mowed lawns on the side for various people in the community. He enjoyed collecting stamps and coins. Dorman loved helping others.
Survivors include his wife Doreen of Cushing, daughters Pamela Cantrell and friend Garry Beeman, Lela Wright of Stillwater and Cecilia Hockett, brothers Jimmy Wright and wife Linda of Olive, Raymond Wright and wife Marilyn of Georgia, sister Pauline Hartgrave of Drumright, grandchildren Krystal Davidson, Shawn Cantrell, Doreen Rice, Khristen Rice, Terra Rice, Khyelian Hockett and Myariah Hockett.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Georgia Ray, brothers Garrett Wright, Ervin Wright, Joe Austin, George Wright and Denzil Wright, sisters Judy Holland, Thelma Pierce, Nora Plutchak, and Imogene Shields.
