Dora Vondia Fowble, a former Cushing resident now of Desert Hot Springs, California passed from this life on June 4, 2014 in the home of her daughter, at the age of 85 years.

    The daughter of the late Samuel Fisk and Nora (McKinzie) Fisk, Dora was born on May 30, 1929 in Locust Grove, Oklahoma. She was raised in Coyle and graduated from Pryor High School.

    Dora had worked as a cosmetologist, bookkeeper, and had been a foster mother for over 13 years for the Department of Human services. She had fostered over 44 children.

     Dora was united in marriage to Melvin Fowble on October 10, 1979 in the Park Place Baptist Church in Cushing, Oklahoma.

    She had a passion for quilting and crochet work.

    Survivors include one daughter, Linda Thompson and her husband Jim of Desert Hot Springs, California; one sister, Ruth Lawrence; her grandchildren Kathy Thompson, James Thompson III, Scott Weaver, and Ken Dunnavant; her great grandchildren Mary and Melanie Dunnavant; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

    In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Homer Barrix.

    Graveside services will be conducted on Friday, June 13, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. in the Coyle cemetery with Pastor Kevin Clouse officiating.
