(Stillwater, Okla.) — A Cushing woman pleaded guilty Monday to gaining access to another woman’s PayPal account and removing $160.10 from it, court records show.
Jennifer Lynn Soloman, 31, was placed on five years’ probation Monday by Special District Judge Katherine Thomas, who imposed extensive conditions for the felony.
For violating the Oklahoma Computer Crimes Act, Solomon was ordered to pay $1,510 plus court costs and $160.10 in restitution along with performing 50 hours of community service.
Solomon must also undergo random drug tests, have a substance abuse evaluation, follow any recommendations, and enroll in Work Force Oklahoma or be either a full-time employee or student under the judge’s order.
According to an affidavit, Cushing Police Officer Taylor Ballard was sent at 8:28 p.m. on Aug. 28, 2019, to the police station’s lobby to talk to the victim.
The victim said “a few months before, she had let Jennifer Solomon use her cell phone one night when she was in a fight with her girlfriend,” the affidavit said.
She said “she was unaware how long Solomon had her phone because she went to sleep and Solomon had left the phone on her porch that night,” the affidavit said.
“She also advised that on a separate occasion, Solomon had helped her set up a PayPal account,” the affidavit said.
The victim said that on Aug. 28, “she loaded some money onto the PayPal account for the first time since creating the account,” the affidavit said.
“Later in the day she received notifications from PayPal that she had sent Solomon $105.00 and $50.00, which after fees come to $51.75 and $108.35,” the affidavit said.
The victim said “she did not intend to send money to Solomon and that she believes that Solomon had gained access to her PayPal account when she let her use her phone,” the affidavit said.
“She has located multiple Facebook accounts on her phone in Solomon’s name as well,” the affidavit said.
The victim “sent me screenshots of the PayPal transfers and her bank statement showing the transfers,” the Cushing officer wrote in the affidavit.
Since she was given a deferred sentence, Solomon will not have a criminal record of the offense if she successfully completes the terms of her probation.
