(Stillwater, Okla.) — A Cushing woman accused of cutting her roommate’s back has been jailed on $20,000 bail pending her arraignment today on a felony charge of assault and battery with a knife as a dangerous weapon.
If convicted, June Marie Harris, 58, could be given as much as a 10-year prison term and $10,000 fine, according to the charge filed last week.
Harris was arrested at her residence by Cushing Police Officer Sara Reynolds, who was sent there at 7:45 pm on Jan. 24 on a reported assault, an affidavit said.
“While in route, dispatch advised a female had been cut with a knife and would be waiting at the corner,” the officer wrote in her affidavit.
The victim was standing crying at the corner of Wilson and Maple, the affidavit said.
“I immediately asked (her) if she needed medical to check her out and she stated she didn’t know due to the cuts being on her back,” the officer wrote in her affidavit.
When the back of the victim’s shirt was lifted, “I discovered two superficial cuts on her back that drew blood. I also observed a cut on the back of her right arm. (She) then told me she was cut by her roommate, June Harris,” the officer alleged in her affidavit.
Cushing Master Patrol Officer Kurt McKean and Officer Reynolds “opened the front door to the residence and hollered for Harris,” who did not respond and so the officers went inside the home, the affidavit alleged.
“Once we arrived at the bedroom door and yelled her name, Harris started to scream and stated she came to her bedroom and locked the door and requested we go away,” Officer Reynolds alleged in her affidavit.
Despite repeated requests to open the door for the police, “Harris continued to scream and ask we go away,” the officer alleged in her affidavit.
“I asked Harris to open the door and speak with me or we would make entry, but she refused to open the door. MPO McKean then kicked the door approximately three times before we were able to make entry,” Officer Reynolds alleged in her affidavit.
“Upon entry, Harris was lying on her bed and appeared to be placing or hiding something in the area of her bed. Harris was asked to stand up and refused.
“After Harris was requested to stand up multiple times, force had to be used to place her hands behind her back,” and she was arrested, Officer Reynolds alleged in her affidavit.
