(Stillwater, Okla.) — A Cushing teenager accused of stealing her ex-boyfriend’s dog has been mailed a letter from the District Attorney’s Office ordering her to appear in Payne County District Court on June 26 on a felony theft charge.
If convicted of larceny of a dog, Grace Leeanne Rogers, 19, could be incarcerated for six months to three years, court records show.
Cushing Police Officer Katherine Hinkle was sent at 7:26 pm on May 18 to a duplex on E. 7th where a man said that when he got back home from being out of town, his dog was missing, according to her affidavit.
“He asked the neighbor across the street about the dog, and the neighbor advised that he saw a female with red hair arrive at the residence approximately 30 minutes prior in a white truck and took the dog,” the affidavit alleged. The man said that “the female is his ex-girlfriend, Grace Rogers,” the affidavit alleged.
“He mentioned that the resident living in the other side of the duplex he is in, is Rogers’ friend,” the affidavit alleged.
The officer wrote in her affidavit, “I met Rogers outside (her residence) and asked about the dog. She advised that her friend called her and told her the dog was outside for hours.
“I advised her she could not go onto someone else’s property and take their dog, and she advised she understood; she was just concerned about the well-being of the animal.
“Rogers advised she did not have the dog, but it was across the street at another residence.
“I went across the street and observed a male on the porch with a puppy matching the description of (her ex-boyfriend’s) dog.
“I advised the neighbor of the situation, and he advised Rogers told him the dog needed a home but wasn’t against it going back to its owner.
“The dog was returned to (Rogers’ ex-boyfriend), and he advised he would like to press charges on Rogers,” the Cushing officer alleged in her affidavit.
