(Cushing, Okla.) Cushing police made a special visit to Harrison Elementary School on Wednesday to talk to the students in Mrs. Jerri Lawson’s Kindergarten class. Cushing police officer Rachel Hentges took time to read a story to the students, promoting the importance of being a good citizen and not taking things that did not belong to them.
Principal Martha Cackler said, “I am very appreciative of the Cushing Police Officers, James Hutchinson and Chief Brannon for taking time out of their busy schedule to visit with our Kindergartners. The children are our future and teaching them the importance of being a good citizen is so vital, not only to our school but our community. Mrs. Lawson’s class was very attentative and enjoyed the wonderful presentation. Cushing is very fortunate to be able to easily pull from outside resources, like the Cushing Police Department, in order to educate our children.”
Afterward, Officer Carson Watts helped Officer Hentges lead the students in pledge to always do what was right. In addition, both officers handed out coloring books, pencils and stickers to the students.
Cushing High School student James Hutchinson joined police this morning and played the role of a jailbird. Hutchinson spoke to the students about being responsible and the importance of not taking things that did not belong to them.
“We always welcome the opportunity to connect with our youngest citizens,” Chief Terry Brannon said. “If our presentation today made a difference for one student then we accomplished what we came to do, which was educate them about being responsible, good citizens,” Brannon said.
