(Cushing, Okla.) The Cushing Police Department defeated the Cushing Fire Department 13 – 9 in the Oklahoma Blood Institute (OBI) blood drive challenge that was held on December 29, 2014 at the Cushing Public Safety Center. The departments also held a friendly competition back in July, in which the Fire Department took home the trophy. According to Police Chief Tully Folden, the real winners are the receivers of the donated blood.
One donation can save up to three peoples’ lives and the need for blood donation is constant. Although all blood types are needed, those with O negative type blood are especially encouraged to donate. Donation time is approximately one hour and you can donate as often as every 56 days.
The Cushing Police Department, Cushing Fire Department and OBI Blood Program Consultant, Tina Baker would like to thank everyone who donated and helped make this blood drive another success. Donors received a T-shirt and a chance to win a 7-day Caribbean cruise for two, courtesy of Cruises, Inc. and a gift card for ground travel to port.
Both departments are planning another blood drive challenge for the near future. For more information about donating blood at anytime, visit the OBI website: www.obi.org.
