Cushing Police Department has two new additions to its force – Brandon Hise, 40 and Jerrod Livergood, 22. Both single, both certified, both ready to go.

Hise joined the force a little over two months ago and comes with seven years experience – the most recent as an officer with Coweta Police Department. “I’m glad to be in Cushing,” Hise said. “I’m from Ripley and this puts me home near my dad (Derald Hise).”

Hise is a graduate of Colorado State University with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science. He not only served as an officer in Coweta, but also in Blackwell. Hise also said he spent time with the state parks service as a state ranger. Since being with the Cushing PD he has completed his field training and was able to work on the recent triple homicide case.

Jerrod Livergood, another Ripley native, is a recent graduate of Oklahoma State University, Oklahoma City where he earned a degree in Criminal Justice. He also is a graduate of the COPS program. Livergood has only been with the Cushing PD for a little over one week and is currently undergoing the 12-week field training program.

“I’m thrilled to start my career at the Cushing Police Department,” Livergood said. “My family lives in Stillwater, so it’s good to be near family.”

Police Chief Terry Brannon said he was “very pleased to have been able to recruit both of these fine men.”

Brannon also pointed out the savings to the community because both men were already certified.

“Both were hired after an exhaustive hiring process,” Brannon said. “Because both men were hired and already certified, it was a combined cost savings of nearly $16,000.”

Brannon went on to commend city officials for their role in creating greater hiring opportunities for the Cushing Police Department.

“Because of the hard work last year by Interim City Manager Steve Spears, City Attorney Stewart Arthurs and the City Council,” Brannon said, “the department was able to implement a new pay plan, which gives us a greater opportunity to recruit solid, educated police officer candidates. It is something I am proud of, and I hope the citizens can see the difference by the way we seek to provide police services.”
