Dakotah Simpson, known to many for his wrestling moves, is helping the Cushing Police Department by filling in as Animal Welfare officer.

Simpson, a city employee, made the lateral move to this temporary position just a little over a week ago.  According to Chief Terry Brannon, Simpson was selected from over 30 applicants vying for the position.

“People don’t realize this is a very technical job,” Brannon said.  “There is training involved, a background check and even a psyche evaluation.  It’s a lot of responsibility and there’s a lot of trust instilled in the person in this position.”

Although it is just a temporary position*, Simpson seemed pleased at being selected.

“I think it is something I’ll enjoy,” Simpson said with a smile.  “I already do.”

*Doug Thompson held the position of Animal Welfare officer until he was called to serve his country in Iraq.  Although he has returned home, his military service will not be up until November of this year.  At that time, Thompson is expected to return to the position of Animal Welfare officer.
