(Cushing, Okla) Jim Pickard, President of the local Lions Club International, called the meeting to order today with song and pledge by Lion Jerry Snyder. This was followed by prayer requests for local families and prayer that was led by Rev. Kathleen Leithner.
The club immediately went to today’s program which was given by Lion Tom Cummings on the Spot Screening Device (Pedia Vision SPOT VS100 Screener).
The Pedia Vision equipment will allow screening for such eye abnormalities as:
Astigmatism: irregularly shaped corneas or lenses
Myopia: nearsightedness
Hyperopia: farsightedness
Strabismus: Misalignment of the eye
Amblyopia: also called lazy eye
An isometropia: unequal refractive power
Anisocoria: pupil size anomalies
Through the program Lions Club intends to take eye screenings to pre-school children throughout Oklahoma ages 6 months to 6 years of age.
The Cushing leg of the program was kicked off through a grant of $4,400 that was given by ENBRIDGE (one of the largest, longest, and most complex petroleum pipeline systems in the world).
Lions Club International now has 5 of the Spot Screening Devices here in Oklahoma.
The lucky winner of the 50/50 drawing won $13.
Today’s meeting adjourned around 1:00 (p.m.).
Cushing Lions Club meets each Tuesday at noon in the Lion’s Den in downtown Cushing.
