Northeaster Oklahoma A&M celebrated its inaugural induction of 10 outstanding athletes and coaches
into the NEO Athletic Hall of Fame. Those individuals include Red Robertson, coach of the
Golden Norse football team; Homa Thomas, NEO baseball coach; Lonnie Graham, member of
the Golden Norse Football Team in 1953; the entire 1959 Golden Norse Football Team, the first
to win a national championship for the college; Dixie Woodall, player on the Lady Norse
Women’s Basketball Team in 1959; Matt Blair, who followed his NEO career with the
Minnesota Vikings; Doug Mathews, Offensive Player of the Year and NJCAA All-American in
1967; Gene Hart, member of the Golden Norse Baseball Team in 1959; Jack Begley, Men’s
Basketball 1953; and Bob Maxwell, player on the 1957 Baseball Team.
Four Cushing High School graduates played on the NEO National Championship team. They are:
Ron (Bones) Taylor, Jim Andrews, Jerry Wattenberger, and Wayne Hill.. All had played for former CHS Coach Faye O’Dell who recently passed away after a long bout with Parkinson’s disease.
