(Stillwater, Okla.) — A Cushing man who was arrested during a traffic stop in Stillwater was given a two-year prison term Friday for possessing items used to manufacture methamphetamine in Payne County, as part of a plea bargain.

Travis Dale Sharpe, 28, was given concurrent one-year jail terms for possessing the drug Xanax without a prescription and driving with a suspended license, in accordance with a plea agreement with prosecutors.

His sentences will run concurrently with a two-year prison term he was given last month for possession of precursors with intent to manufacture a drug in Lincoln County in 2009 — while he was free on bail on his 2008 drug charge in Payne County.

Stillwater Police Officer Jeff Dillon stopped Sharpe’s vehicle on E. 6th Street at 6:16 p.m. on Sept. 23, 2008, for failure to signal a lane change, his affidavit said.

“I noticed he appeared extremely nervous. Using the name and date of birth provided by him, I found that he had a suspended North Carolina driver’s license. He was also entered into NCIC as wanted out of North Carolina.

“I had him exit the vehicle and noticed a knife sticking out of his pocket. I took possession of the weapon for my safety,” the Stillwater officer wrote in his affidavit.

Sharpe admitted that he had a DUI in North Carolina, which suspended his driver’s license, the affidavit said. He was arrested in Payne County for driving under suspension, the affidavit said.

When his vehicle was searched for other weapons, his suspended North Carolina driver’s license and his insurance verification form, items that are commonly used to manufacture methamphetamine were found, the affidavit said.

“He stated he purchased the items for the purpose of selling them to a third party who would use the items to manufacture methamphetamine. He stated he has been doing these types of transactions for several months,” the Stillwater officer wrote in his affidavit.

During the jail booking process, a Xanax pill was found in a cellophane cigarette wrapper in Sharpe’s pants pocket, the affidavit said.
