(Stillwater, Okla.) – A Cushing man who is on probation for cultivating marijuana plants has been jailed on $10,000 bail with an order to appear in court this afternoon on a charge of possessing methamphetamine on July 21.

Christopher Lee Anderson, 29, could be given a 20-year prison term and a $10,000 fine if convicted of the felony charge filed this week.

Anderson was a passenger in a car that ran out of gas on Norfolk Road and East Brian Road on July 21, according to an affidavit by Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Ryan Long, who was dispatched to that area for a vehicle assist.

The driver of the car, which had an expired temporary used dealer paper tag, was asked by the trooper if she was aware of anything illegal in the vehicle, the affidavit said.

She said that Anderson “uses illegal drugs and that he had possession of the vehicle earlier in the day,” the affidavit alleged.

With her permission, the trooper searched the car and “located a small coin purse in the passenger-side floorboard where Anderson was sitting,” when the trooper arrived, the affidavit alleged.

When the trooper opened the coin purse, he “observed a capped syringe with a brownish-red fluid in it,” the affidavit alleged.

When the driver was asked about the syringe, “she stated that she did not know anything about it,” the affidavit alleged.

Anderson said “he had placed the syringe in her coin purse earlier in the day,” the affidavit alleged.

The driver and her vehicle were released by the trooper, while Anderson was arrested about 3 p.m. that day, the affidavit said.

Anderson said that the substance in the syringe was methamphetamine, the affidavit alleged.

Three years ago, Anderson had been placed on five years’ probation under a deferred sentence for cultivating marijuana plants in 2011 in Payne County, court records show.
