(Stillwater, Okla.) — A Cushing man — who was jailed Friday after appearing in court under the influence of marijuana — was given a 30-day jail term today followed by probation for possessing methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia in Cushing last August.

Billy Joe Lorett, 26, had pleaded guilty last September and was scheduled to be sentenced Friday — when he appeared in court under the influence of drugs.

His court-appointed attorney Jodie Gage admitted to the judge “It’s marijuana he’s under the influence of” in court — adding “He’s addicted to drugs and wants help.”

Associate District Judge Stephen Kistler Friday revoked Lorett’s personal recognizance bond and ordered him jailed “due to his admittance he’s under the influence of an illegal substance.”

In court today, Kistler placed Lorett under a five-year deferred sentence except for 30 days in jail, with credit for time served, and ordered that he have a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow all the recommendations.

Lorett was also told by the judge that he must comply with the state’s methamphetamine registry, perform 50 hours of community service within 12 months, and pay $700 in fines and assessments.
