(Stillwater) — A Cushing man who admitted breaking into his next-door neighbor’s house –where three guns and a camera were stolen — has been placed on probation for three years, as part of a plea bargain.
Johnathan Michael Watkins, 28, who also admitted making a false pawn declaration of ownership of two rifles stolen in the burglary, possessing marijuana and possessing drug paraphernalia, was ordered to pay $550 in fines and assessments at his Sept. 18 sentencing.
Johnathan Watkins must complete any treatment recommendations listed in a background report prepared for the court or any recommendations made by his probation officer, under District Judge Donald Worthington’s order.
Johnathan Watkins and his cousin, Dustin Jay Watkins, 29, of Cushing, who is also charged in the break-in, were arrested the day of the May 27 burglary by Cushing Police Officer Adam Harp.
The victim had reported that when he and his wife came home that morning, they noticed that someone had broken into their residence and stolen a black powder rifle, a camouflage Charles Day shotgun and a Remington 30-06 rifle, along with a Kodak digital camera, the Cushing officer wrote in an affidavit.
The victim said that he spoke to his next-door neighbor, Johnathan Watkins, and told him about the guns being stolen from his residence, the affidavit said.
The victim said, “Johnathan made the comment that it was probably his cousin, Dustin Watkins,” the affidavit alleged.
Dustin Watkins, who is free on $7,500 bail, has been ordered by Worthington to appear in court on Oct. 16 on a two-count charge of second-degree burglary and possessing firearms after a former feloy conviction.
Dustin Watkins is currently on probation for possessing methamphetamine and a substance with the intent to manufacture methamphetamine in Cushing in 2005, court records show.
