The following information is a preliminary collision report furnished by the Department of Public Safety.
A collision occurred at 06:09 (PM) March 11th (2015) on SH 51 about 0.1 miles west of Eagle Road, located 2.1 miles east of the city limits of Yale (Payne County).
Kevin Brando Edwards (47) of Cushing was driving a 1988 Chevrolet Corvette eastbound at a high rate of speed when he came upon a pickup that was slowing to turn into a private drive. Brando took evasive action to the right, passing the pickup on the shoulder, there was a semi-tractor and trailer parked on the shoulder, Brando then took evasive action to the left and crossed SH 51 going up an embankment, and rolling 1.5 times before coming to rest on its top.
Brando was pronounced dead at the scene from head, arm, and trunk internal injuries. He was transported to Palmer-Marler Funeral Home (Cushing).
The cause of the collision is reported to be unsafe speed; an odor of alcohol was present.
