(Stillwater, Okla) — A Cushing man was charged Tuesday with sexually battering and strangling a girlfriend on Memorial Day weekend in a case investigated by Perkins police.
If convicted of sexual battery and domestic assault and battery by strangulation, Cornelius Prince Shanklin, 20, could be given a 20-year prison term and a $20,000 fine, according to court documents filed Tuesday by prosecutor Jill Tontz.
On May 30, Shanklin is alleged to have grabbed his girlfriend around the neck and forced his body on the woman who suffered various red marks around her neck and throat area, court records show.
Shanklin is also alleged to have held her down on May 30 and attempted to remove her skirt with the intention of having sexual intercourse with her, while she repeatedly said “stop” and “you’re hurting me,” according to the charge.
Shanklin appeared in court June 1 before Special District Judge Michael Stano, who set his bail at $5,000 — with the condition that Shanklin have no contact with his alleged victim, court records show.
Shanklin posted $5,000 bail and was released, with an order to appear in court Tuesday with an attorney, court records show.
