Cushing — On Saturday July 26, 2014 at approximately 2:33 p.m., Cushing Police Officers Rachel Hentges conducted a traffic stop on red Ford Expedition, driven by 33 year old Cushing resident Jason Woodberry in the 200 block of North Hartman.

Once stopped, Hentges had communications confirmed Woodberry’s suspended driver’s license. Ofc. Hentges then placed Woodberry under arrest and placed him in her patrol car.

Due to having prior drug related information on Woodberry, Ofc. Hentges requested K9 Officer Matthew Piatt and his K9 partner “Max” conduct an exterior free air sniff of the vehicle.

During the exterior sniff of the vehicle, K9 Officer Piatt observed K9 “Max” alert on the driver’s side of the vehicle to the presence of odor associated with illegal narcotics.

Ofc. Hentges then conducted a search of the interior of vehicle. During the search, Ofc. Hentges seized a small pink Ziploc baggie, which contained a loose green leafy substance. Following the search, the vehicle was released to Woodberry’s girlfriend, who was summoned to the scene.

Prior to leaving the scene, MPO Piatt, took a measurement from the stop location to Northwest Park, which is located in the 400 block of north Hartman. The measurement was 662 feet north of the stop location.

Once at the police department, Ofc. Hentges conducted a field test on the loose green leafy substance, which tested presumptive positive for Marijuana.

Arrestee Jason Woodberry was booked in on the complaints of possession of Marijuana within 1000 feet of a park, possession of drug paraphernalia, and operating a motor vehicle while driver’s license is suspended.

“I want to commend the actions taken by Ofc. Hentges, K9 Officer Matthew Piatt, and K9 “Max” in removing these illegal narcotics from our city streets” Chief Tully Folden said.

Woodberry is expected to be transported to the Payne County Sheriff’s Department this morning, where he is expected to appear in court this afternoon.
