(Stillwater, Okla.) – A Cushing man, who remains jailed on $25,000 bail, has been ordered to appear in court this afternoon on charges of giving a 14-year-old girl approximately 10 shots of vodka and sexually assaulting her by rape or in the alternative lewd molestation in his bedroom at Timber Ridge Apartments.
Landon Scott Doughten, 21, could be incarcerated for as long as 21 years if convicted of lewd molestation and furnishing alcohol to a person under 21. If convicted of the alternative count of second-degree rape, Doughten could be given as much as a 15-year prison term.
According to an affidavit by Cushing Police Officer Garvis Scott Thomas, the girl’s mother reported at 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 3 that her daughter had been raped by Doughten at Timber Ridge Apartments.
She said she was at work the previous night when her daughter called her upset and said Doughten, a neighbor, “got her drunk and raped her,” the affidavit alleged.
When she returned home, “she found her daughter very intoxicated and stumbling around,” the affidavit alleged. She said that her daughter had vomited, the affidavit said.
She said she encouraged her daughter to report it to the police that night, but her daughter did not want to “due to being scared,” the affidavit alleged.
She “reported her daughter and Doughten were acquaintances and were not in a romantic relationship…(she) stated her daughter had never been drunk before and had not previously had sexual intercourse,” the affidavit alleged.
When the girl had a sexual assault examination at the Stillwater Medical Center at noon on Nov. 3, the nurse “reported no finding,” the affidavit said.
The Cushing officer collected the clothing the girl said she had worn at the time of the sexual assault — Doughten’s gray shirt, the girl’s white shirt, white underwear, black leggings, black hoodie and pink bra, the affidavit said. Several clothing items smelled of vomit, the affidavit said.
When the girl was interviewed at the Saville Center in Stillwater on Nov. 14, she said “Doughten had sexual intercourse with her after providing her a large amount of alcohol at his apartment,” the affidavit alleged.
She said “she did not have a relationship with Doughten and did not consider him a friend,” but they met through a mutual friend and sometimes exchanged messages on Facebook Messenger, the affidavit alleged.
She said “she had not spent any time or hung out with Doughten prior to this incident. She told (the forensic interviewer) she believed Doughten liked her, but she did not feel the same about him,” the affidavit alleged.
On the day of the alleged sexual assault, she “described hanging out with Doughten after he had messaged her,” the affidavit alleged.
She described the apartment where Doughten “lived with his dad, but he was not home on this date, due to being in the hospital for a broken collar bone,” the affidavit alleged.
“While at Doughten’s apartment, (the girl) reported he offered her alcohol and poured her shots of vodka,” with root beer, the affidavit alleged. She “estimated she had approximately 10 shots and Doughten had two or three himself,” the affidavit alleged.
The girl said while they were drinking, her mother came to Doughten’s apartment to get her phone, saw a bottle of liquor and told her to stop drinking, the affidavit alleged.
The girl said that her mother and Doughten took her back to her own apartment before her mother left for work, the affidavit alleged. She “stated her mother and Doughten had to help her up the stairs because she was intoxicated and falling,” the affidavit alleged.
After her mother went to work, the girl went back to Doughten’s apartment, the affidavit alleged.
She said “Doughten had told her mom he was going to work that evening, but he never went to work and instead stayed with her,” the affidavit alleged.
She said “when she got tired, Doughten brought her to his bedroom and put her on his bed,” where she said she vomited twice on herself and Doughten changed her shirt and put a large white T-shirt back on her, the affidavit alleged.
While this was happening, the girl said “she was unable to speak, could not move her mouth to talk and was unable to open her eyes,” the affidavit alleged.
She said that she was scared and remembered her clothing coming off her body, the affidavit alleged.
She said that “when Doughten left the room, she rolled off the bed and crawled toward the door to try to leave,” but Doughten “found her on the floor, picked her up, put her in the front room and told her to stay there,” before helping her back to her apartment, the affidavit alleged.
She said that when she was inside her apartment, she shut the door, locked it and began crying, the affidavit alleged. She said she then called her mother, who came home, and told her what happened, the affidavit alleged.
She said “she messaged him the night it occurred and asked him why he had done what he did. She reported Doughten denied it happened. She said she had not spoken to Doughten since,” the affidavit alleged.
She said that Doughten last attempted to communicate with her on Nov. 11 when he messaged her and said hello, the affidavit alleged. She said “she did not respond to him, and it seemed as if Doughten was still trying to be friends with her,” the affidavit alleged.
Four days later when Doughten was interviewed by the Cushing police officer, he said that the girl had come to his apartment and took approximately 10 shots, the affidavit alleged. Doughten said the girl got intoxicated and after her mother came over, they took the girl back to her apartment, the affidavit alleged.
Doughten said after the girl’s mother went to work, the girl came back to his apartment where they did not drink any more alcohol and he put the girl in his bed, the affidavit alleged.
Doughten said that after the girl vomited on her shirt, he took that shirt off and put one of his shirts on her, the affidavit alleged.
“At this point of the interview, Doughten explained that nothing else happened and he did not touch her or have sex with her,” the affidavit alleged.
But after the Cushing officer spoke to Doughten a few more minutes, he admitted kissing and fondling her, the affidavit alleged.
“He reported while doing this, he realized what he was doing was wrong and stopped,” the affidavit alleged.
Doughten said he left his room “to gather himself,” went back to the room and took the girl back to her apartment, the affidavit alleged.
During the interview, Doughten admitted to provided the girl with alcohol in his apartment and fondling her, but denied having sexual intercourse with her, the affidavit alleged.
