(Cushing, Okla) Jim Pickard, President of the local Lions Club International, called the meeting to order today at 12:22 p.m. The agenda started with song and pledge by Lion Jerry Snyder. This was followed by prayer requests for local families along with prayer by Russ Thurman.

Lions Club then introduced the guest (Mike) attending with Lion John Fechner of Fechner Pump and Supply.

President Pickard talked to the club about who the winners of the Chili Cook-Off were: Hilltop Nursery #1, Ted Smith #2, and Falco Alarm #3. Booth winners: Pyramid Foods #1, Hilltop Nursery#2, and Falco Alarm #3. The People’s Choice winner of the Chili Cook-Off was Falco Alarm.

Several Lion Club members were thanked for their help with the Chili Cook-Off as well as Mike at KFC for providing the Chili Kits. The total amount raised from the Chili Cook-Off was $877 from ticket sales and contestant fees.

In other announcements: Lions Wheels (also known as Cowboy Cadillac) tickets are available from Lion Mary Kelly and the Fruit sales package which is now here and ready to sell. Orders from the fruit sales must be turned in by November 14th (2014) the delivery date for the sold fruit is December 2 (2014).

Today’s guest speaker Marlene Dial spoke to the club about the Interpretive Center that will hopefully be coming to Cushing in the future. The Center is to be located in the old train depot/station after renovation of the building. There will be three phases that will need to take place: Phase one is to raise 5.2 million dollars over the next two to three years, Phase two is getting oil companies to partner with them and Phase three is getting grants.

Dial also shared a short story about when she was a child needing eye surgery and the Lions kept her family in a hotel while she was having the surgery done.

Tail Twister Kevin Clouse announced today’s winner of the 50/50 drawing, Lion Lou Griffin was the lucky winner of $8.00. Kevin then notified members that $1.75 had been raised by the Tail Twister during today’s club meeting.

The meeting adjourned around 12:56 (p.m.).
