(Cushing, Okla) Jim Pickard, President of the local Cushing Chapter of Lions Club International, called the meeting to order today at 12:18 p.m. The agenda started with song and pledge by Lion Jerry Snyder. This was followed by prayer requests for local families and prayer was led by Lion Louis.
Today’s guest speaker was Amy Jones of Love Inc., Amy talked with the club about what it requires of Love Inc. to make Christmas happen for 442 local people. She also stated that 46 families were fed through the local food pantry. Amy went on to tell about a program that is in operation reaching outside of Cushing called Feed My Starving Children. The program will literally prepare thousands of life-saving meals at a MobilePack.
Lions Club then remembered Our Veterans and that “They Serve to Preserve Our Rights and Freedoms.”
Lion of the day Vic Caudle spoke to the club about Veterans Day and some of the sights he had visited, such as the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. He also ask if anyone had anything they would like to share regarding a Veteran. Several people shared information regarding stories about Veterans and some local Veterans were remembered. Vic brought a pansy plant for each Lion to take home and nurture.
Lion Kevin was in charge of making arrangements for the club to vote on the Peace Poster art contest. Results will be revealed at a later date.
Lion Tom Cummings ask that some pre-school operators be invited to attend next week’s meeting, which will include a session on vision screening.
Lion Tom Cummings thanked local Lion Club members for their support of the Newcastle Club. Newcastle Lions received $200 of which $125 was from Lion Jim. The money came from winning in the 50/50 drawing.
Today’s lucky winner of the 50/50 drawing won $7. Last week’s winner Lion Buck won $6.50.
The meeting adjourned around 1:05 (p.m.).
