(Cushing, Okla.)  This evening’s game against Blanchard had the lady tigers down in the first half.    Fans from both sides were standing during the second half of the game as the lady tigers took the ball in the last seconds to score a three pointer that sealed the deal – Cushing beat Blanchard 40 to 39.

Here’s what KUSH “sports guy” David Riggs had to say about the game that kept everyone on the edge of their seat:

(Yukon, Okla.) “If there were any doubters of Cushing’s toughness before Thursday nights battle against Blanchard, there shouldn’t be after the game.

The Lady Tigers came out of the locker room in the first half flat on all cylinders. Cushing only led once to start the game 1-0. Blanchard showed that they were to be taken seriously with both great defense and great shooting. Someone just forgot to tell the Cushing Lady Tigers they were beaten.

The Lady Tigers were down by as much as 12 points in the first half, but roared into the second half with a key three pointer by Mattea Jackson at the buzzer.  That helped give Cushing momentum in the second half. The Lady Tigers took their first lead of the game since the 6:38 mark in the first quarter, with a little over a minute and a half to go in the game. Blanchard then went on an 7-0 run, but the Lady Tigers didn’t quit as they fought back to with in 2 points.

And with 13.3 seconds to go in the game, Cushing got the ball back.  Taylor Jones passed to Jackson, who fed a wide-open Kayla Klaus, hitting the game-winning three pointer with 3.9 seconds to go. Two Lady Lions tried to get back against Klaus on defense but were to late. Cushing (23-3 overall, ranked 8th) made a come back to beat Blanchard (22-4 overall, ranked 4th) 40-39.

Cushing’s Che’Ron Lewis finished with 14 points, Mattea Jackson 9 points, Taylor Jones had 8 points, Shaunda Hagler who fouled out finished with 5 points and Mariah Burris had 1 point. And let’s not forget Kayla Klaus, who hit the game-winning 3 pointer, finished with 3 points.

The Lady Tigers face Bethel at 1:30 pm in Miller Arena in Yukon on Friday.”
