(Cushing, Okla.) Cushing Firefighters have been undergoing training on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 8:30 (am) until all firefighters are comfortable in the use of the newly acquired 2007 Smeal 105 foot quint ladder truck.
The instructor, Frank C. Schaper, will also be working with each shift of firefighters and also with the City of Cushing’s mechanic this Thursday, August 20th (2015). Schaper is working to help everyone become more familiar in the operation and mechanics of the quint ladder truck.
The apparatus is to be used for fires and/or rescue scenarios in multi-story buildings and strip malls i.e. Ahrberg Mill, hotels, Cimarron Towers, Hillcrest Hospital Cushing, as well as residential structure fires.
In the case of residential structure fires, this apparatus gives fire crews the ability to ventilate a home with limited manpower on scene.
The ladder truck was originally purchased new by the city of Alton, Illinois, and was taken out of service to sell due to an economic downturn.
