(Stillwater, Okla.) – An ex-convict from Cushing, who was released from prison a year ago, has been charged with possessing methamphetamine with intent to distribute, having drug paraphernalia and being intoxicated in Yale, all on Valentine’s Day, in a case investigated by the Payne County Sheriff’s Department and the Yale Police Department.

Danny Joe Hopkins Jr., 30, who remains free on $40,000 bail pending a March 20 court appearance, was arraigned on the three-count charge in Payne County District Court last week.

Hopkins’ criminal record includes convictions for:

* drug possession with intent to distribute in Payne County in 2008 for which he was given a five-year prison term and served about three and one-half years followed by five years of probation on which he remains;

* drug possession in Payne County in 2008 for which he was given a five-year prison term and served about three and one-half years followed by five years of probation on which he remains;

* grand larceny, unauthorized use of a vehicle and possession of a firearm after a former felony conviction in Payne County in 2008 for which he was given three concurrent five-year prison terms and served about three and one-half years, followed by five years of probation on which he remains;

* drug possession with intent to distribute in Payne County in 2007 for which he was given a five-year prison term and served about three and one-half years, followed by five years of probation on which he remains;

* knowingly concealing stolen property in Payne County in 2004 for which he was given a five-year probationary term that was changed in 2008 to a five-year prison term of which he served about three and one-half years;

* knowingly concealing stolen property in Creek County in 2004 in Drumright for which he was originally given a five-year probationary term that was changed in 2012 to a five-year prison term of which he served about one year and seven months;

* bail jumping in Creek County in 2008 for which he was given a one-year prison term in 2013, of which he served about three months before he was released on Jan. 31, 2014, state Department of Corrections records show.
