(Stillwater, Okla.) — A Cushing couple, whose home was searched on a warrant for stolen property and narcotics, have been charged with possessing 15 grams of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and also having a stolen welder.
Blake James Thompson, 25, who was also accused of possessing a loaded .40 caliber Beretta pistol during the commission of a felony, remains free on $10,000 bail pending a June 5 court appearance on a three-count charge punishable by 17 and one-half years’ incarceration on conviction.
Alexandria Jean Turner, 26, whose relative picked up the two young children in the residence at the time, remains free on $10,000 bail pending a May 15 court appearance on a two-count charge punishable by seven and one-half years’ incarceration on conviction.
The couple had been arrested at 9 am on April 2, about two hours after a search warrant was served at their home in the 900 block of E. Maple in Cushing, according to an affidavit by Cushing Police Detective Jerrod Livergood.
“While the occupants of the residence were being detained, Blake Thompson told officers that there was a gun in the bedroom,” the affidavit alleged.
“After the scene was secure, I observed a black pistol sitting on the nightstand next to the bed in plain view without a lock or holster. Sgt. Watts cleared the firearm and found the .40 caliber Beretta pistol was loaded with a magazine and one round in the chamber,” the Cushing detective alleged in his affidavit.
“During the search, a small black bag with a white crystal-like substance was located on a table in the dining room,” containing three separate baggies with medium to large crystals that field-tested as methamphetamine, the affidavit alleged.
Next to that bag, a shopping bag formed into small baggies consistent with packaging small amounts of methamphetamine had a crystal-like substance that weighed about 15 grams, “which was 5 grams short of the trafficking weight,” the affidavit alleged.
“On a nearby shelf, there was a black digital scale with a white powdery residue,” that field-tested as methamphetamine, the affidavit alleged.
Turner told Payne County Sheriff’s Investigator Brandon Myers that “she and Blake were selling methamphetamine,” the affidavit alleged.
“On the same shelf just below the scale was a Whistler Radio Frequency Scanner that was currently running and scanning radio frequencies,” which the detective called “a common tactic for individuals to listen for police activity while selling narcotics to avoid law enforcement contact,” the affidavit alleged.
“During a search of the garage and their vehicle that was parked in the garage, multiple items that were reported stolen were located including a Miller Wire Welder, oxygen/acetylene bottles, chainsaw, weed eater, and a Dewalt 60-volt rechargeable battery,” the affidavit alleged.
“Thompson advised that the Miller Wire Welder was purchased from a friend, although Turner had a contradictory story and advised that it was just being stored there by someone else,” the affidavit alleged.
“The weed eater and chainsaw were reported stolen on 7-10-2023. It should be noted that on 7-12-2023, I interviewed a suspect in the case, and he advised that Alexandria Turner, Blake Thompson’s girlfriend, borrowed his car on the night of the theft,” the Cushing detective alleged in his affidavit.
