(Cushing, Okla.) The Cushing Chamber of Commerce held a reception for the January Business after School honorees, Monday, Jan. 28th.
Those honored were: Anita Toland, Armintha Godwin, and Cushing High School seniors Mariah Burris and Josh McCullough.
Anita Toland has three children and 4 grandchildren. She loves movies, floating down the Illinois River, camping and family cookouts. If she could spend the day with someone, Anita picked country singer Blake Shelton. Her greatest joy in her job are the children. “Whether it’s a smile on their faces or hugs that they give…it’s a great place to work.” Anita Toland is a support person at Deep Rock Elementary.
Harmony teacher Armintha Godwin (“Te” for short) has been married for 22 years to John Godwin and they have two children, SanToya and John II. She enjoys spending time with her family, going to sporting events, playing games, taking road trips or “just reading a good book.” If she could spend the day with someone it would be President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. If she could take a trip anywhere in the world – at no cost – it would be a trip to Africa. “I would love to go to Africa to see the many historical sights, go on a safari and be of service in as many villages as I could.” As for her greatest joy as a teacher, she said “To see learning happening. To see a child ‘get it’. I never get tired of seeing a child light up with learning.”
Cushing High School senior Mariah Burris enjoys playing basketball, reading books and “hanging out with her friends.” If she could spend the day with anyone, Mariah said she would choose Chinese Scientist Shinya Yamanatza, the discoverer of induced pluripotent stem cells. When asked to humbly tell of something she does well, she said she is pretty good at writing essays. A talent she feels has come in very handy while filling out college and scholarship applications. As for her five year plan – Mariah sees herself attending veterinarian school at Oklahoma State University.
Cushing High School senior Josh McCullough enjoys making videos with friends and fishing, but his favorite thing to do is watching teams from Oklahoma State University play sports. If Josh could spend the day with anyone, he would spend the day with Brandon Weeden. “He is the greatest football player and his views on leadership are similar to mine.” His future plans include college and starting a job in Public Relations.
Business after School honors one teacher, one support person and a girl and boy senior from Cushing High School throughout the school year and is sponsored by the Cushing Chamber of Commerce and local businesses.
