(Cushing, Okla.) The Cushing Chamber of Commerce Business After School honoring January recipients was held on Monday, January 28, 2019. Business After School is a Chamber program that honors Cushing’s education community.

Each month, one educator, one support staff and two high school seniors are honored. A reception is held at 4 p.m. in the Cushing Chamber of Commerce board room the last Monday of each school month (with the exception of September and December). Receptions are open to the public.

Those honored for the month of January were: Kaedyn Wright, CHS senior; Jacob Grellner, CHS senior; Kristen Cooper, support staff; and Rosa Block, teacher

A little bit about the January honorees:

Support staff of the month is Kristen Cooper. Kristen and her husband Jarrod have two children, 16 year-old Cali and 14 year-old Caleb. Some of her interests include teaching AWANA 3rd and 4th grad girls at First Baptish Church on Wednesday nights, cuddling up with her family and watching a movie or the ID channel and Pintrest. Her most enjoyable place to ever visit is New York. When asked what she loves best about her school, she said “I love the kindergarten and first grade age. We have some of the funnest activities we participate in.” She was asked what she would do if she won the Powerball and she said, “Set up trust funds for my kids and find a good honest organization to donate to.”

Rosa Blocker is the teacher of the month. Her family members include her husband Dennis, son Adam and his wife Mercedes, daughter Alicia Richardson and husband Patrick, son Aaron and wife Madison and sons August, Austen and Alex. They also have eight grandchildren and two cats. She is a member of the Oklahoma School of LIbrarians, Oklahoma Library Association and Profession Oklahoma Educators. Her hobbies include reading (of course), sewing, visiting museums and animal photography. If she won the Powerball, Rosa stated, “I’m so boring…pay the bills, put some (most) away for retirement, then go to Alaska and watch the whales and Northern Lights.”

Kaedyn Wright, CHS senior, is the daughter of Kyle and Kari Wright. She has three siblings, Kaybre, Kreed and Kyrcee. She is a member of the Academic Team, Choir, Spanish Club and Student Led Ministries. Her favorite school subject is calculus and she plans on going to TU, OSU or OC. The most enjoyable place she has visited is Estes Park, CO. One person that has inspired her is her friend and classmate, Jake Ahrberg. Some of the awards she has received include 3 years All-State choir, AP Scholar, Varsity Scholar, OKSHS, ECOCDA honor choir and the Princeton Book Award. When asked what advice you would give to any younger person who wants to be successful in high school, she responded “Get involved! Join clubs, make new friends, do things you can put on your resume, but don’t stretch yourself too thin. Find what you like and stick with it.”

Jacob Grellner, CHS senior, is the son of Randy and Shelley Grellner and he has one brother, Austin. He is on the golf team and his favorite subject is History. His education plans after high school encompass studying business at Souther Nazerene University. The most enjoyable place he’s visited is Palm Springs, CA. A person who has inspired him is his brother. Jacob has received a Southern Nazarene University golf scholarship. He is also on the President’s Honor Roll, is a Boy State attendee, has been Rotarian of the month, volunteered in the church nursery, assisted with golf team fundraising and Homecoming bash assistance. Advice he would give to any younger person, “Stay focused. Don’t get involved with groups who will not better you. Follow your passion and don’t lose it.
