(Cushing, Okla.)  The Cushing Chamber of Commerce Business After School reception was held Monday, November 24, 2014. Business After School is a Chamber program that honors Cushing’s education community.

Each month, one education, one support staff and two high school seniors are honored and the reception is held at 4 p.m. in the Cushing Chamber of Commerce board room on the last Monday of each month (with the exception of September and December). Receptions are open to the public.

The November honorees were: Ashley Bryan, teacher; Susan Shock, support personnel; Mikaela Weaver, CHS senior and Mason Russell, CHS senior.

A little bit about the honorees:

Ashley Bryan teaches 7th grade science at Cushing Middle School. She is married to Adam Bryan and has a 2 1/2 year old son, Nolan. The couple is expecting their second child in May. She enjoys playing with her son, science and nature.

Susan Shock is a kindergarten teacher assistant at Deep Rock Elementary and has been married to her husband, Steve for 27 years. They have three children: Brandon, 24, Brittany, 20 and Denver, 16. When asked what Susan likes to do in her free time, she stated “I don’t have a lot of free time but when I can, I enjoy shopping, watching TV and playing with her pets. Susan explained the greatest joy in her job is watching the kindergartners grow from tiny babes to able students. She also feels the faculty and staff at Deep Rock are her second family.

Mikaela Weaver, CHS senior, enjoys reading and spending time with her beautiful nieces. Her favorite food is the chicken and rice casserole that her mom makes. She would love to spend the day with author, John Green. Mikaela was asked to humbly tell something she does really well. She said, “I’m very good in school, and I feel that I am very intelligent. In five years, Mikaela hopes to be making her way through college to be a nurse practioner.

Mason Russell, CHS senior, likes to relax and watch Jeopardy to study for Academic Team Meets in his free time. His favorite food is steak, especially from Texas Roadhouse. If he could spend the day with anyone, it would be Steve Jobs. When asked what he feels he does really well, Mason’s response was “I feel I do really well at leading. I currently serve as the National Secondary Vice-President for Business Professionals of America and have previousely served two terms as the Oklahoma State President.” In five years, Mason sees himself on two different paths, 1) Graduating and receiving commission from the United States Naval Academy and in flight school. 2) Graduating from Oklahoma State with a degree in Management Information Systems.
