(Perry) — The Cushing Tigers made it two straight on the road against Perry with a 63-52 win over the Maroons. Dwayne Vaughn scored 19 and Philip Wilson added 15 points as Cushing ran out to a big lead early and held on late. Cushing opened the game with a 16-3 run, and led at halftime 28-16. But Perry didn’t go quietly and outscored the Tigers 12-10 in the third quarter. And the Maroons were able to cut the Cushing lead to nine midway through the fourth period, but could get no closer, and the Tigers were able to hit their free throws down the stretch to win by eleven.
Meanwhile, the Lady Tigers suffered another loss at the hands of the Lady Maroons, who won at Cushing earlier this season. Cushing trailed at half 23-16, and Perry ended up winning by 11, 46-35. Krista Smith led Cushing with 13 points, including a 3 pointer at the buzzer. Daria Tucker added 7, Alex Baumert had 5, Jordan Young had four points, Amy Kirkpatrick scored 3, Celestine Hatfield had 2, and Jade Watson was held to a single point.
Next action for both teams is Tuesday, hosting Bristow at the CHS Fieldhouse.
