Mark your calendars for the 20th Annual Festival In The Park in Cushing, Oct. 11, 2008. This year entertainment will include some new faces and some old friends, good food and great art. Memorial Park in Cushing is once again the place to be the second weekend in October. The Geographic Club Annual Run for the Mums applications are out, call 225-6107 for 5K run entry forms.
Festival in the Park will open this year on Thursday evening October 9 with the first
round of the 2008 Entertainment Showcase in Memorial Park. Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy the local talent as they sing, dance and compete for prizes. Dinner will be available, cooked by the Cushing Masonic Lodge.
Friday night you are invited to a reception honoring guest artist Linda Carter Holman in the Cushing’s Downtown Centennial Park. Linda is a nationally recognized artist (who grew up in Cushing) who will be traveling to Cushing to attend this year’s Festival in the Park.
On Saturday another Cushing native, Abe Dunaway will take the stage at 12:15 on Saturday with his band; Redraw the Farm, based out of Colorado Springs, CO. The country/rock performance by Redraw the Farm is sponsored by Cimarron Healthcare Center and Drumright Dental Center.
Some additional highlights of this year’s Festival in the Park include: A Scottish Bagpipe Band, sponsored by Carson Foundation; Orange Rex-Fire Eater, sponsored by Davis Funeral Home and the Cushing Chamber of Commerce; Martial Arts demonstration by US Martial Arts Training Center in Cushing. The winner of the 2007 Entertainment showcase, Kevan Beeler will perform as well as students from Dance Star Productions and other local talent.
Activities on Saturday also include: Temporary Tattoos provided by Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Oklahoma; Face Painting provided by Cimarron Healthcare Center; Public Safety Awareness Tent, sponsored by Bank of Cushing; The Pumpkin Patch and pumpkin decorating contests, sponsored by Hilltop Green House; Foot Ball Big Screens under a tent and children’s activities will be provided by Spirit Bank.
Food vendors include: Pies and Cinnamon Rolls – the First Christian Church, Smoked Hamburgers – Cushing 4-H and FFA, BBQ Chicken – First Baptist Church North Brotherhood, Pulled Pork Sandwiches – Immanuel Lutheran Youth, Turkey Legs and Roasted Corn – Jewels for Life, Cotton Candy and Slushies – CHS Choir Boosters. Funnel Cakes – United Pentecostal Church, Bar-B-Q Sandwiches – Cushing Masonic Lodge.
