(Cushing, Okla.)  Looking for a smiling face? Check out the folks at Panhandle Area Shelter Workshop (PASW) located at 1111 E. Main in Cushing. The clients there were all smiles Thursday as KUSH paid them a visit during their Plant & Craft Sale.

Site program manager Sandy Chandler has a passion and heart for helping her clients. Much of that passion comes from her own experiences as a parent of a child with Cerebral Palsy.”This is close to my heart,” Chandler said. “We are all family here and I love these kids.”

Chandler, along with other “family” members working at PASW, helps adults with disabilities learn crafts and feel valued for their accomplishments.

“Pinterest is our friend,” Chandler chuckled.

Thursday they were proudly showing and selling some of their crafts, along with raffle tickets for a donated quilt. Raffle tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5 and can be purchased until the drawing May 11, 2015. Wreaths, yard ornaments and pots made from dishes were just some of the fun items for sale to raise money for their trip to compete in the Special Olympics May 13th, 14th and 15th in Stillwater.

“This is the only vacation some of our clients get to take,” Chandler said.

She went on to say, with the deadline fast approaching, they are still needing sponsors to help purchase their Special Olympics t-shirts.

The plant and craft sale will be held through Friday, April 17th. Items left over will be available for purchase inside the thrift store.

PASW thrift store is open weekdays from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. and has items available for purchase all year.

Anyone interested in donating items to the thrift store or making a donation to help defray the expenses of their Special Olympics trip, may call 918-285-5400.Or better yet – stop by 1111 E. Main, where not only will you get a smile, you’ll leave with one.
