(Seattle) – Oklahoma State got what they wanted most on opening day, a win on the road. Although not flashy, the Cowboys hammered out a workman-like performance against Washington State and defeated the Cougars 39-13. OSU scored first on a 26 yard filed goal by Dan Bailey. That score was set up by a 42 yard punt return by Dez Bryant.
OSU led 15-0 at halftime, and did not give up a score until midway through the third period. A nine yard TD toss by Gary Rogers made it 18-6 OSU.
On the ensuing kickoff, Perrish Cox returned the kick 90 yards to put the Cowboys up 25-6.
Washington State was able to score again on a three yard run by Rogers, to make it 25-13. The Cowboys scored 14 unanswered points to make the final 39-14. Zac Robinson scored on a 1-yard quarterback sneak, and Kendall Hunter got his second TD of the day on a 10 yard run through a gaping hole in the Cougar defense.
Robinson threw for 182 yards, going 20 for 27 with an interception. Hunter finished with 107 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries. Dez Bryant finished with 7 catches for 90 yards and also had a 42 yard punt return to set up the Cowboys first score.
The Cowboys finished with 367 yards of offense while the defense held Washington State to 196 tolal yards. WSU did not cross into Cowboy territory until the midway point of third quarter.
There was only one turnover in the game, an interception thrown by Zac Robinson that was tipped by an OSU receiver and picked off by the Cougars.
OSU returns to Stillwater to host Houston at Boone Pickens Stadium next Saturday.
