(Stillwater, Okla.) — A convicted murderer serving a sentence of life without parole in the Cimarron Correctional Facility was charged today with assault and battery on a corrections officer on July 4 in the Cushing private prison.

Don Ho Son, 61, listed as Dong H. Son in prison records, has been incarcerated for the past 30 years, state Department of Corrections records show.

At the time that Son was charged with murder in Cleveland County in 1989, he was on five years’ probation for pointing a firearm in 1988 in Oklahoma County, DOC records show.

Son was convicted of first-degree murder by a jury in Cleveland County on Nov. 17, 1989, and sentenced on Jan. 5, 1990, to life in prison without the possibility of parole, DOC and court records show.
