(Cushing, Okla.) On December 18, 2014 Stephen Orton graduated from CLEET Law Reserve Academy. The graduation ceremony was at Drumright Central Tech.Orton has served as the Cushing Police Department’s Chaplain since 2011. He also works full time for the City of Cushing as the Animal Control Officer.

Orton was chosen by his classmates to be the class representative and to speak on behalf of the class at the graduation ceremony.

Orton spoke to his classmates, instructors, and a full room of family and friends who were in attendance. Orton spoke of the different departments and towns his classmates were from, “Kiefer, Sperry, Mannford, Yale, Drumright, Payne County and the great city of Cushing.” Orton also referred to the story of Cain and Able. He described how the story related to law enforcement work. Orton told his classmates to always remember the training they received during the reserve academy.

Warrior Award

Reserve Officer / Chaplain Stephen Orton was chosen by his instructors to be the recipient of the Warrior Award. Instructor and Assistant Drumright Police Chief Brian Gooch presented the award to Reserve Officer Orton. Gooch read the award to those in attendance. It read “Of every one-hundred men, ten shouldn’t even be there, eighty are nothing but targets, nine are real fighters… We are lucky to have them … they make the battle, Ah, but the one, one of them is a warrior… and he will bring the others back”Hericletus C. 500 B.C.

The Cushing Police Department would like to thank the Drumright Police Assistant Chief Brian Gooch and Ofc. Kevin Webster for coordinating the Academy. We also want to thank all the countless instructors that assisted with the training.
