(Cushing, Okla.) The joint meeting of the City of Cushing Board of Commissioners and Cushing Municipal Authority Board of Trustees yielded the approval of Resolution No. 22-2011 and a couple of options to discuss regarding Fountaine Bleau Apartments.
Commissioners approved the resolution to authorize the City Manager to issue a purchase order to Haynes Equipment Company for material and labor to replace electronics for the water treatment plant. The total sum is not to exceed $17,000.
City Manager Steve Spears told commissioners he did not expect all the electronics will need replacing, but wanted to be prepared should that be the case.
The resolution died at the last commission meeting due to questions raised by members of the council regarding Haynes and the reason for repeated problems at the water treatment plant.
“I think this is going to help a lot,” Spears said. “Our goal is to get it working like it once did.”
This time around commissioners approved the resolution unanimously – with the exception of Commissioner Jim Hogrefe who did not make it to Monday’s meeting until it was ending.
In a study session, commissioners heard from representatives of National Commercial Auctioneers and local businessman Benny Vassar and electrician Terry Hunt as to options regarding the future of Fountaine Bleau Apartments.
National Commercial Auctioneers representatives Whitey Mason and Brent Wellings presented commissioners a proposal regarding the sale of Fountaine Bleau Apts. Auctioneers Whitey Mason and Brent Wellings fielded questions from commissioners, assuring them “we can do you a lot of good selling and marketing the property.” They went on to say what a “hot commodity” multi-family properties are right now.
Benny Vassar and Terry Hunt also gave them a proposal regarding the apartments. Hunt, an electrician from Stillwater, pointed out that while National Commercial Auctioneers may get the City a better price, they could be assured he and Vassar “aren’t going anywhere” and their plans would probably be “more in line” with what the city may want.
Chairman of the Board Evert Rossiter thanked all of them for coming and presenting options other than razing the buildings. The meeting then adjourned with the promise of another study session. “I think this deserves input from all the commissioners,” he concluded.
