(Cushing, Okla.) – Cushing Middle School (CMS) student Kyleigh Leverich has been selected the winner of the Lions Club District 3-H Peace Poster Contest. Kyleigh will be presented an award at the District 3-H Lions Convention on February 9, 2013. Twenty-eight clubs comprise District 3-H.
Kyleigh’s peace poster will now be entered into the state competition, which comprises four other districts. If selected the winner at the state competition, Kyleigh’s peace poster will be entered into the national competition, which will include other peace posters from around the world.
Kyleigh’s peace poster garnered first place in the local competition sponsored by the Cushing Lions Club in November. Club members based their selection on originality, artistic merit, and portrayal of the contest theme, “Imagine Peace”.
Other posters garnering awards from the Cushing Lions Club included middle school students Abigail Watkins, 2nd place and Amarie Griffeth, 3rd Place. In all, there were 42 entries this year by students in Ms. Betty Bowen’s art class.
“Our club admired Kyleigh’s vision for peace, and we are cheering for her as her peace poster advances in the competition,” Lions Club President Terry Brannon said. “We hope that her vision of peace will be shared by others.”
Each year, Lions clubs around the world proudly sponsor the Lions International Peace Poster Contest in local schools and youth groups. This art contest for kids encourages young people worldwide to express their visions of peace. For 25 years, more than four million children from nearly 100 countries have participated in the contest.
