Cleo Allen Johnson, retired plumber/building contractor, passed away Sunday evening, July 6, 2014, at his home, at the age of 69 years.
The son of the late Johnny Johnson and Elsie LeaDean Craig Johnson, Cleo was born on June 30, 1945 in Yale, Oklahoma, and was raised and educated in the Cushing Schools, graduating from Cushing High School with the class of 1963.
Following his high school graduation, he served his Country in the United States Army.
After completing his plumber and contractor licenses, he owned and operated the Lincoln County Plumbing Company in Chandler, and in 1999, he moved to Cushing and started the C & S Plumbing Company here, retiring from the company in 2010.
Cleo had lived in Carney for over 25 years and was very active in the Carney community. He served on the City Council, serving several terms as Mayor; he had served as the Fire Chief and also on the Carney School Board. He was an avid fisherman, loving to spend time outside, working on the yard, gardening, feeding the fish, or just hanging out on the front porch.
His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the pride of his life and he enjoyed spending time with them. He was a big sports fan, always rooting for O.U., the Dallas Cowboys and the Thunder. He also enjoyed bowling and for many years bowled on a league.
Surviving include his wife Dawna of the home; four sons, Jon Eric Johnson of Cushing, Jay Johnson and wife Christy of Carney, Terry Hancock and wife Donna and Shawn Hancock of Perkins; four daughters, Tonya McCalla, Lori Aakre, Laura Johnson all of Stillwater and LaDawn Mueggenborg and her husband Bobby of Oklahoma City; his step-mother, AdaLea “Mickey” Johnson of Cushing; three sisters, Marilyn McFarlin of Tulsa, Leora Barrows of Cushing and Beverly Sneed and her husband Richard of Tampa, Florida; one brother Terry Johnson and wife Charlotte of Newcastle, Oklahoma; 25 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son Keith Hancock.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 10, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the First Baptist Church with Pastor Keith Moore, officiating.
The family will greet friends on Wednesday evening in the Floyd Family Center from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Cushing High School Alumni Association, Building/Roofing Fund, P.O. Box 1494, Cushing OK 74023, in his memory.
